Job Stories From Washington County, AR
Wet Crawl Space in Fayetteville, AR

This customer had a really nasty crawl space. There was a problem with water leaking into the crawl space. There was also a bad humidity problem under the home, which was affecting the environment above. We helped this customer by installing drainage matting and clean space to help with the water and the humidity problem. Drainage matting helps promotes the drainage of the water across the crawl space floor. Clean space is the vapor barrier which helps reduce the overall humidity and moisture that is in the crawl space. We also installed wall caps, these are used to seal the openings on top of concrete blocks, that are often used in foundations. These openings in the concrete blocks were a great way for moisture to seep into this customer's crawl space. We eliminated these problems using wall caps. We also installed a SaniDry dehumidifier to lower the humidity in the crawl space.

Smart Jack in springdale, Ar

For this homeowner, we installed our Smart Jack in his Crawlspace. A Smart Jack is a supplemental support system for crawl space applications. The Smart Jack supports sagging beams and floor joists.

The Smart Jack Allowable Capacity

The allowable system capacity of the mobile Smart Jack steel components is 30 kips (30,000 pounds). Axial compression tests completed at n independent laboratory on the assemble Smart Jack system, with and without a precast concrete footing, resulted in ultimate values between 56 kips and 90 kips.

While the rigidity and strength of the Smart Jack components benefit installation and overall product stability, the allowable load applied to the Smart Jack system will nearly always be limited by the bearing capacity of the existing soil. The well-compacted crushed stone or recycled concrete base is a proven method to increase support for the higher bearing pressure condition immediately below the concrete footing and then to absorb and distribute lower pressures to the existing soils. Should settlement of the Smart Jack system occurs, Adjustments are made easily by extending the all-thread rod. The Smart Jack is designed to support axial compression loads only. The Smart Jack should not be used in applications where the system is intended to resist lateral loads.

Fighting Mold in Lincoln, AR

A dirt crawl space under a home is a very bad idea. The earth has very high humidity in the soil. This water vapor moves easily into the crawl space and upwards into the house environment. A damp environment is very unhealthy and destructive. Mold thrives and reproduces by producing airborne spores by the millions and some molds are toxic. One of the best ways to eliminate mold is to control the moisture levels in your crawl space. The CleanSpace liner is used to isolate the home from the earth completely and permanently. The liner is a heavy 20- mil thick material similar to a pool liner. It is manufactured in 7 layers- a blend of high-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, and two layers of polyester cord reinforcement. It is blue on one side and white on the other. The bright white finished side really brightens a crawl space with the available lighting and allows you to easily see that your crawl space is free of mold, insects, and dirt. The CleanSpace liner is manufactured with an antimicrobial additive called UltraFresh- molded right into the material.

To install the CleanSpace Liner- is carefully cut and installed in sections. Small holes will be drilled into the crawl space walls approximately 6" below the wood sill plate and every 3" along the wall. Nylon fasteners are installed to permanently secure the CleanSpace liner to the wall. The top edge of the liner is sealed to the walls with a polyurethane sealant. All seams are sealed with special 4" wide sealing tape and/ or sealant. The CleanSpace liner is also sealed around other objects, such as pipes, columns, and piers with any combination of sealant or concrete.

The outer layer consists of high strength polyurethane film manufactured using virgin grade resins and containing UVI and thermal stabilizers. CleanSpace is reinforced with two separate plies of a 900 denier polyurethane reinforcement laid in a diagonal pattern spaced 3/8" apart with an additional machine direction polyester every 3" across the width. The individual plies are laminated together with molten polyethylene.

Installing an Encapsulation in Farmington, AR

Crawl space encapsulation is the adding of a heavy-duty polyethylene barrier to cover the crawl space including floors, foundation walls, and possibly even its ceiling. An encapsulation barrier could be likened to the lining in your swimming pool that prevents leaks. The barrier works best when it covers your home’s crawl space completely. Sealing tape connects the barrier’s pieces throughout the space, and once the space is sealed, a dehumidifier helps regulate your crawl space’s moisture level.

Our CleanSpace Liner is a white/blue seven-layer reinforced laminate containing no adhesives. The outer layer consists of high strength polyurethane film manufactured using virgin grade resins and containing UVI and thermal stabilizers. CleanSpace is reinforced with two separate plies of a 900-denier polyurethane reinforcement laid in a diagonal pattern spaced 3/8" apart with an additional machine direction polyester every 3" across the width. The individual plies are laminated together with molten polyethylene.

The second thing we installed is our SmartSump- SmartSumps are designed to evacuate water from the CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system. To install the SmartSump, installers follow the following procedures.

Create a hole in the floor, at the lowest possible elevation in the crawlspace approximately 21" in diameter and excavate down 21" from the floor surface. Set the liner in the hole with the lid approximately 1/4" below the surface of the crawlspace and backfill with clean stone. Install the pump; check valve and section of 1-1/2" PVC discharge pipe that extends above the floor. With the CleanSpace cut approximately 2" inside the liner base all the way around the diameter place the 2-piece lid around the discharge pipe and pull the electrical cord through the other opening in the top and then with the CleanSpace sandwiched between the base and sump lid, bolt the lid into place. Install airtight grommets and alarm. Mount Cord Captain to the 1 1/2" discharge line using supplied pipe clamp for wire management, hang system service envelope using 8" wire tie supplied and fill out all information on labels.

The last thing we used for this job was our SaniDry Sedona- The Sedona is the most effective and energy-efficient flow through dehumidifier in the world. The Sanidry Sedona eliminates damp, musty odors in your basement or crawlspace by drying and filtering the air. Mold and mildew are musty smelling fungi that thrive in moist conditions. Dust mite fecal matter is the #1 indoor allergen. The SaniDry Sedona will keep your home below 55% relative humidity-- mold won't stand a chance and dust mites will die off!

WaterGuard in Fayetteville

A crawl space and a basement are quite different, but they have one thing in common. They both need to be dry to be safe and usable. These homeowners found standing water in their finished basement, so they contacted CrawlSpace Solutions of Arkansas to find out what wet basement solutions we could offer.

We sent our Design Specialist, Jack, to evaluate the area and speak with the homeowner. Jack put together a solution to waterproof the basement the homeowners loved.

The installation crew started by installing the TripleSafe Sump Pump. With three pumps and two alarm systems, this sump pump is the world's most reliable pumping system. No matter what happens, you can rest easy knowing your basement or crawl space will stay dry.

The WaterGuard Drainage System is installed in a trench at the perimeter of the basement. WaterGuard has a special wall flange creating a space between the floor and wall allowing wall seepage to drain while keeping dirt and debris out. WaterGuard connects to the sump pump, allowing all water coming in from outside to flow to the TripleSafe Sump Pump, which pumps the water out and away from the basement.

Encapsulation would not be complete without the 20-mil thick CleanSpace Liner. CleanSpace protects your basement from condensation from the masonry, directing it towards the WaterGuard Drainage System. This eliminates another source of humidity, keeping the basement drier and cleaner. The homeowners are thrilled to have full use of their finished basement!

Whether you need crawl space repair or basement waterproofing, the professionals at CrawlSpace Solutions of Arkansas have the solution.
