The best way to create a vapor barrier is to completely and permanently isolate the home from the earth. For this homeowner in Drasco, we installed three products to effectively isolate and eliminate any moisture in the air. The first thing we installed was our Drainage Matting- The drainage matting is installed by carefully cutting and installing in sections and seams are sealed with CleanSpace tape. The drainage matting has dimples that allow better conductivity for water to get to the perimeter drainage or sump pump, which would be located at the lowest spot in the crawl space.
The CleanSpace liner completely isolates your home from the earth. This dramatically reduces the humidity level in the air which when combined with sealing outside air and dehumidification, will eliminate mold growth and rot from your crawl space and make the whole house healthier. Trained installers will remove wood and organic materials from your crawl space floor. Rocks and uneven surfaces are leveled, depending on the crawl space conditions.
The CleanSpace liner is carefully cut and installed. The workers will usually be working in their socks to keep the liner clean. That's how clean your crawl space will be. Small holes are drilled into the top of your crawl space walls, and nylon fasteners are installed to permanently secure the CleanSpace liner to the walls.
The top edge of the CleanSpace liner is sealed to the walls with a polyurethane sealant. All seams are sealed with special 4" wide sealing tape and or sealant made for the CleanSpace liner. The CleanSpace liner is also sealed around other objects such as pipes, columns, and piers with any combination of sealants or concrete.
The last thing we installed was our SaniDry Sedona- The SaniDry Sedona eliminates damp, musty odors in your basement or crawlspace by drying and filtering the air!
Whether a dehumidifier will keep up and ensure mold won't grow in all seasonal conditions depends on how much water it will take out of the air. This depends on capacity and airflow. The SaniDry Sedona has a whopping 100 pints per day capacity and will move over 300 cubic feet of dry air per minute around your basement or crawl space. This dries the building materials and contents of your home and makes that damp feeling go away!
