To Vent or Not to Vent

Anyone who has lived on a vented crawl space has probably heard that your vents need to be open in the summer and closed in the winter. If you have looked in to building a home on a crawl space, you have most likely heard that you shouldn't even have your crawl space vented. There is so much information out there and as a homeowner, you may not know which way to turn. You've come to the right place. Here are the facts. A vented crawl space allows humid air in. A non-vented crawl space traps moisture in. The best solution is to have a sealed, or non-vented, crawl space with an encapsulation system and a dehumidifier. You cannot prevent moisture from entering your crawl space 100%, but you can eliminate the risks of moisture in your crawl space by taking the above steps. Seal it, encapsulate it, dehumidify it. It's that simple. If you dehumidify without sealing and encapsulating, your dehumidifier will run all the time. If you seal without dehumidifying and encapsulating, you are just trapping the moisture. And of course, if you encapsulate without dehumidifying and sealing, you will still accumulate moisture from the open vents. Encapsulating your crawl space with the CleanSpace Encapsulation System with the SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier and SilverGlo Vent Seals ensures your crawl space, and your whole home, stay cleaner, drier, and healthier!
